So, I was cleaning out the garage today. (a job three years in the making.) And the boychild (Heretofore, known as Jake) decides to hang out with me, not helping mind you, but just hanging out. He finds some old cassettes i had in a box, now Im talking old here, like 1986, 1988, this kinda old. Well, he decides he likes these cassettes, and wants to hear them, so we picked out Aerosmiths greatest hits and proceeded to jam. He digs it, of course. We also listened to L.A. Guns, which I forgot how cool they were. So, Jake now has in his arsenal, Jethro Tull "Original Masters" and Aerosmith, and a chrismas tape, I have no clue why he picked that one out though.
So anyways, It would seem that the boy is diggin on the old school rock, he still likes the newer stuff though, we were dancin together to the New Pornographers today while I was shavin, thats always a hoot. tomorrow, Im gonna introduce him to Lord Tracy, anyone remember them?
Later!

The List! (All Praise!) [edit]
Wow, how original, he has an album list!
Okay, I know what your thinking, and I dont blame you, everybody has a list of what they consider to be the best albums, artists, songs, whatever. This is my list of albums that I feel have made the biggest impact on my life, way of thinking, and generally the artists that I feel are ahead of the curve in most ways. This is in no way to be taken to mean that I think everyone should agree, or that everyone should become my disciples. (although that doesnt sound like a bad idea actually.I mean for you.) Its just a list of Albums that mean alot to me and are definetly worth checking out if you get the chance, feel free to leave a list of your own in the comments, and dont forget to place a pin on my bravenet map.
1.JUDAS PRIEST, "DEFENDERS OF THE FAITH"
Anyone who knows me understands this choice and it will need no explanation. Those who dont need only to keep checking back as I will eventually write the story and post it on here. "When the night comes down"
2. DIO, "THE LAST IN LINE"
This is the Album that introduced me to metal back in 1983, some 21 years ago. It was an epiphany! I was such a scared and unhappy young man, and to hear this guy singing was like a bolt of lightning to my young impressionable, pot soaked brain! "We'll know for the first time, if were evil or divine, were the last in line!" This was also my first concert 2 years later, Sept 12th 1985 Dayton Ohio, Hara Arena- WE ROCK!
3.IRON MAIDEN, "LVE AFTER DEATH"
In my opinion, one of the best live bands in the known universe. Who can deny the power of "Revelations" or "The Ryme of the Ancient Mariner" and lets not forget "Hallowed be thy Name" All bow to the kings of arena metal. "Oh God of earth and alter, bow down and hear our cries, our earthly rulers falter, our people drift and die, The walls of gold entomb us, the swords of scorn divide, take not thy thunder from us, but take away our pride!""
4.BLUE OYSTER CULT, "EXTRA TERRESTRIAL LIVE"
Another live one. Not alot to say about it though, you must hear the live version of "Veteren of a Thousand Psychic Wars"
"You see me now a veteren of a thousand psychic wars, Ive been livin on the edge so long, where the winds of limbo roar.
And Im young enough to look at, and far too old to see, all the scars are on the inside....And Im not sure if theres anything left of me!
5.RUSH, "CHRONICLES"
I know this is a best of type of thing, but I didnt get into Rush till I was older, and someone kinda forced it on me, and I was blown away. near as I can tell, Neil Peart is god. "There are those that think that life is nothing left to chance, a host of holy horrors, to direct or aimless dance"
6.MOTHER LOVE BONE, "APPLE"
In the words of Stone Gossard, "the most talked about, least bought album of all time" MLB is basically Pearl Jam with Andrew Wood as singer/songwriter rather than Eddie Vedder. The thing is, is that the style is completly different. you just have to hear it, it so good, its crazy. "Stargazer you call the shots, and I take em', Stargazer wont ya kick with me"
7. VARIOUS ARTISTS, "TEMPLE OF THE DOG"
After Andrew Wood died from a heroin overdose, (before he got to see his first major label album released) MLB wanted to release some of his personal musical recordings and poetry, but his girlfriend and family vetoed the idea, thinking that they were only interested in making a buck. So, instead, they teamed up with a couple members of Soundgarden and Eddie Vedder and made this album, dedicated to, and in memory of Andrew Wood. Nuff said."You call me a dog, well thats fair enough, It aint no use, to pretend your wrong"
8. METALLICA, "MASTER OF PUPPETS"
What can I say? Probably the most influencial metal album of all time. I dont care what anyone says, metal wouldnt be what it is today if it werent for this band and in particular this album. Every metal or hard rock band that has a platinum album since 1986 must give praise to these guys for opening the door for them, period. Besides, its Cliff Burtons last album and absolutley his best work. "Lashing out the action, returning the reaction, weak are ripped and torn away. Hypnotizing power, crushing all that cower, Battery is here to stay."
9. GUNS AND ROSES "APPETITE FOR DESTRUCTION"
Again, what can I say? the album that changed the face of rock and roll, and breathed life into a music industry that in my opinion, was on its last legs. As influencial in the revival of the industry as Led Zepplins "In through the Out Door" was back in 1981. I was as blown away the first time I heard this entire album as I was the first time I heard Dios "The Last in Line" years earlier. I even won a lip syncing contest doing Paradise City with a friend of mine, funny story actually, it was at a catholic church festival, we were like 18 or so, and quite plastered on California Coolers (remember? they used to sell it in 2 liter bottles!) I think we got 10 bucks a piece or somthing. Enough to insure that we would stay drunk for the rest of the day, since this was like before noon or something. Anyways, I digress. Shame these guys imploded, but now we got Velvet Revolver, and everyones ignoring Axl Rose, so its all good! "Take me down to paradise city, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty, take me home!"
10. THE CULT, "ELECTRIC"
Good grooves and killer riffs, this is the album that opened my eyes to alternative music, never mind that it is The Cults attempt to break into the mainstream music scene. The guys took alot of flak for what the critics considered their heavily borrowing from the Zepplin riff catalog. Still, one of the best albums of the eighties. "Fell to the red room, because she was there, uh huh, scarlet woman, she got me in fits, yeah yeah yeah"
11. LED ZEPPLIN "IV"
Call it whatever you like, this is the quintiscential rock album of all time, bar none. They should be teaching this in schools by now shouldnt they? If Time magazine can say that William Shakespeare was the man of the milenium (sp?) then Led Zepplin should be the band of the millinium. And if memory serves, I believe that every 'greatest hits of all time' countdowns Ive ever heard, had Stairway to Heaven as the greatest song of all time, and didnt Jack Black do a song about it? Im gonna resist temptation and quote Blackdog (this song is named after a black dog that was hanging around the studio while they reccorded it.)"Hey hey baby when ya walk that way, watch ya honey drip, cant keep away"
12. PINK FLOYD "WISH YOU WERE HERE"
I couldve just as easily went with The Wall or Animals on this one, but decided to go with the first Pink Floyd album that I discovered on my own. This album is all about one of the founding members of Floyd, and his decent into madness after succumbing to drugs and alcohol. He was seduced by his own "rock stardom" his leaving the band was the pivitol moment for the rest of the band and issued in the age of Roger Waters and Dave Gilmore. If Barret hadnt left, we wouldnt have gotten Dark Side of the Moon. "Come on over here boy, have a cigar, your gonna go far, your gonna fly, your never gonna die, your gonna make it if you try, their gonna love you"
13. ALICE IN CHAINS, "FACELIFT"
The album that introduced me to grunge, perhaps with the exception of Temple of the Dog. I hadnt heard a band sound so slow and dark since the first time I ever heard War Pigs. I still say that Alice in Chains reminds me so much of Sabbath that its scary. Shame that Layne Staley had to go and die. I guess there will never be an Alice in Chains reunion tour. oh well. "I live tomorrow, you Ill not follow, as you wallow, in a sea of sorrow"
14. LIVE, "THROWING COPPER"
With the exception of Nevermind, this is definetly on my short list for album of the decade 1990-2000. Live is one of my favorite bands and this album definetly changed alot of my views about life. Not to mention the fact that it came out around the time my first child was born, and I was open to alot of new ideas about the human race and how we all fit in. I recently lost someone very close to me, and "Lightning Crashes" fits the entire feel of the whole situation that I cant even start to express how I feel. "Oh now feel it, coming back again, like a rollin thunder chasing the wind, forces pullin from the center of the earth again, i can feel it"
15. NIRVANA, "NEVERMIND"
Yea, when I look back, I cant believe how fast I went from having a can of Aqua net in my hair, and soft leather boots, and such, to having dirty, scraggley hair, combat boots, and an attitude. stopped listening to Guns and Roses overnight, all I wanted was Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. This album is absolutly up there with In through the out Door and Appetite for Destruction. I dont however believe that they should have given Curt Cobain any recognition for being like the artist of the decade or anything, like so many radio stations and magazines did back at the end of the century. He killed himself, thats the pussys way out. sorry, but thats how it is kids. "Come as you are, as you were, yes I want you to be, as a friend, as a friend, as an old enemy,Take your time, hurry up,The choice is yours dont be late, take a rest as a friend as an old memory."
There are so many more that I could name here, this is by far, a very edited list of what could be several hundred singles/albums/artists. Music has been one of the two most influencial things in my life. Reading and music, preferably both at the same time. Im insatiable. Perhaps I will list the most influencial books in my life. Considering how long it took me to put this little list together, I wouldnt hold your breath!

the coolest [edit]
Ya know, one of the the coolest people I know is my 10 year old daughter! I already brag about her and her excessive love of green leafy vegtables, actually any thing that grows out of the ground. she doesnt even have a favorite so much anymore, just all your basic veggies.
Well, today she suprised me by sitting at the kitchen table and eating a can of sardines and crackers with me, I just thought that was the coolest. tonight she ate grilled catfish with me. One of her favorites is spinach and vinegar, pretty cool huh?
I think so.
Coming soon, top album list!

The cabin [edit]
So, We went to the Cabin this weekend to celebrate our anniversarys, my sister and her hubby Steve have been married 9 years now, (right Wally?) and Dawn and I were celebrating 12 years. It was great, this is the second year we've done this, and I hope its gonna be a long standing tradition. Oh, and I also got some kiler bug pictures, check 'em out!

Maybe this story will redeem me, maybe not! [edit]
OOkay, heres a story.
I went to India recently, for two weeks. It was a really long flight. really long. On the way, I was on the same plane for 22 HOURS! same seat and everything. No getting off the plane to stretch my legs or nothing, just stay in the same place. What can you do on a plane for 22 hours? sleep and eat, thats it, I did manage to read an entire book. (The Da Vinci Code) I liked that, but hell, even that gets boring after awhile. I watched an Indian comedy, (Brother Munna MBBS.) It was funny. Chicago to Bangalore....22hrs.
Now on the way back, I got to change planes in Mumbai (Bombay, why they changed it I cant say......people just liked it better that way) That was interesting. No offense to the Indian people, but they need to learn how to form a line and pay attention to cues. seriously, if there is somewhrer they need to go, and there are 2000 of them, they are all crowded up against a 30" door, shuffling and squirming to get through it first, or next, whatever the case may be, never quite making eye contact with each other or speaking, or allowing women and children to get through, its just like a mob, a really quiet, slow, shuffling kind of mob. Now I know that that seems like no big deal, but just try to board a plane at 5 AM in Bombay with 300 people all trying to get on the plane at the same time, then come and talk to me. We'll compare notes.
Example.....
When I do get on the plane, there is a little old lady stiting in my seat. I say, "excuse me, this is my seat" and she points out that she just wants to sit next to her husband. (that would be the lil ol man in the next to her) I say no problem, what seat did you have? and a guy behind us says it was the one next to him, so i sit. moments later, lo and behold, it turns out to be someone elses seat, so I just laugh (what are ya gonna do, ya know?) and keep moving seats until I end up in an empty one. Now, after we had been in flight for an hour or so, one of the attendants comes up to me and says "you are Lawrence, correct?" Now keep in mind, Im not in my assigned seat, and she just walked right up and singled me out....Im envisioning a gaggle of english soldiers waiting for me at Heathrow.....well, she can tell by the look I give her that she has shocked me, she just laughs and runs her finger across her forehead as if to say, it was obvious and stands up and walks away.....minutes pass, and Im not thinking of it anymore. Up walks attendant and hands me an envelope, Im clueless, Im expecting a note telling me to remain in my seat and dont make a scene....instead I open it up, and there is a nice little card, signed by the crew, thanking me for my patience and understanding, telling me how much they appreciate it. Im really shocked, I mean, Im a nice guy, but I dont think I did anything that anyone else wouldnt do, I mean really, it was nothing.
My Point?
Ahhh yea, I forgot. I think it had something to do with Indians and such.
Oh Yea, I just didnt notice anyone being especially nice or even polite to people during my flights over to India, or on the way back. I think it shocks them when someone does somthing like that, I really cant think of any other reason that I was singled out.
Now let me make one thing clear, The Indian people are just the nicest, kindest, gentelest (?) people you could ever meet, just not when they are flying, or driving, or waiting in line for anything, that is.

This Blog Sucks. [edit]
Okay, after reading several other peoples blogs, Ive realized that my blog is quite boring. It lacks imagination, flare, quizes, etc. etc.
Dont get me wrong, Im sure that I could do better, but I just dont have the time. I work 10 hrs. a day, and then there are the family responsibilities, (and I slack on those enough as it is!) I just cant seem to find the time to blog! By the time I do think of something interesting or whatnot to blog about, it seems that either its too racy to put on here(considering that members of my family read this) or just too damn boring to type about. oh well, someday, something exciting will happen to me.

More from India [edit]
Heres a few more pictures from my trip to India. Im gonna link more pics from now on, due to the fact that Im still on an ancient dial-up and it takes me too damn long to load my own blog! I find it ironic that I got alot better picture from my wifes small lil Kodak, than I got from my $300 digital. I should have waited till they came out with the 3 or 5 megapixel cameras before I got one. 1.3 just sucks.

Bike [edit]
Heres my Bike, I feel like a little kid in a candy store. Anyone who knows me knows how much something like this wouldve meant to me when I was younger, why I didnt do this sooner is beyond me. I rode all over this evening, hell the boy child even went with me. I think we may be on to something here. Now, I'll have to deck it all out with mirrors and lights and all that crap.

messy messy [edit]
Im a messy guy.
I cant help it, its a part of me, like my feet.
Cant expect a guy to cut off his feet now can ya?
I try to organise, really, I do. I got all the baskets and stuff to organise everything I own, but stuff grows on my desk, like fungus. I have discs everywhere, nearly finished books Ive been meaning to read, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, empty water bottles,(okay, I threw that away just now.) A letter from the Indiana BMV thanking me for participating in their "Take This Course Or We'll Suspend Your Licence For No Reason" class. (I better keep this one, in case they decide to make a sequel!) Oh well hey, a picture is worth a thousand words!
Do you think they could use this in one of those "ISpy" books, that my daughter likes so much?
find the pop tart....
find the turtle.....
find the freezer bags.....
Ironically enough, my wife doesnt find this at all amusing.
Cant really say that I blame her......guess I better find a way to cut off my feet.....

BIKE [edit]
I used to ride bike every day, I mean seriously ride.....like 20 miles would be no big deal. Is there something happenin in Bellefontaine? no problem, lets ride. Is that a girl over there thats willing to put out? Im there! 50 miles you say, no problem, lets ride!
Well, its been quite a while since I rode a bike, I mean years upon years. Now, Im 34 years old, overweight, lazy, and tired all the time, so when the wifeepoo suggested we go get some bikes yesterday, I was all for it. Now thats something I can get into. I miss the long rides out in the country, all by myself, I used to enjoy that so much. I told wifeepoo last night that she couldnt know how excited that I was to be getting a bike after all these years. Shes gonna find out!
Now, the bike. I couldve bought one online Im sure that wouldve blown me away, but being the average, impatient, male that I am, I decided we'd just goto Wal-Mart. Convienance or Death , man. Could've gotten the cheap bike, it still wouldve been the best bike I ever owned, but, I decided to upgrade to the $100 Mongoose. I know what your thinking, $100 aint that much, but it is for me, for a bike anyways. Considering I dont remember ever actually paying for a bike when i was young. Well, we got our bikes, (wifeepoo got a real nice roadmaster) decided to take a little ride............alright, ouch! my legs are all jumpy, and my ass hurts! I know itll pass though, I believe this is gonna be the excersise even I can stick too.
I really like my new bike, Im gonna post a picture of it tomorrow. I need to name it, so leave me some messeges and help me come up with one, wait till I put the picture first though!
See Ya Later Alligator!
